Where the facts come from

Every factual claim on this site links to its source. This is the full list.

How we checked

We only use expert sources: Encyclopaedia Britannica (its written articles, not its AI summaries), NASA Glenn Research Center’s Beginner’s Guide to Aeronautics and the Science Museum Group’s blog. Each fact was written in our own words alongside its source. Our build script stores the source text and, for every fact, checks that the key words and figures really appear in it. 115 of 115 checks passed when this site was last built (31 Oct 2026). Where we couldn’t find one of those sources saying it, we left the claim out. Where two sources disagree (Rocket’s top speed, for one), we quote both.

The games

The Steam Engine Explorer, Valve Master and the experiment calculator are our own drawings and code, simplified and not to scale; the explanations beside them link to the pages below. The quiz, timeline and pairs answers come from the pages below.
